AJF BASTARDO SHOWS CONFIDENCE
FOR CEV CHALLENGE CUP

Men’s team of Associação de Jovens da Fonte do Bastardo will host Belgium’s Euphony Asse-Lennik (20h30 – Azores time) for CEV’s Challenge Cup Qualification Stage 2nd Round – 1st leg.

With the matching taking place at the Vitorino Nemésio Sports Complex at Vitória Beach, Terceira Island, the referees will be Alexis Barrasa (Spain) and Frankie Tanti (Malta).

Despite being aware of his opponent value, AJF Bastardo’s head coach, Alexandre Afonso, trusts in a good game from the Portuguese side:
“All our players are ready to go up against a worthy adversary, who has a very strong attack, and it’s, in fact, one of the top three Belgian teams. I’m sure that it’s possible to advance to the next round, In order to that to happen, we need to be aggressive in our serve and be confident on the sideout. We arrive at this match after six consecutive victories for the championship, which gave us the lead but also the confidence to perform well for the European competition”.

The Azoreans lead the National Championship with 18 points in 6 matches, three points clear of Benfica (5 matches), while Euphony leads the Belgium championship with 3 victories in four matches, being one game ahead of Noliko Maaseik and Knack Roeselare.

The 2nd leg is set to November 27, when the Belgian side entertains the Portuguese at Sportcomplex Molenbos. The winner of this round will play Czech’s Voleijbal Brno on the round of 32.
