PORTUGUESE CONTINUE
TO STRIKE AROUND EUROPE
 

Os The Portuguese athletes playing for European clubs proved themselves, once again, strong when it comes to scoring: Bonémia Gomes and Nuria Lopes were the 1st and 2nd, respectively, best scorers in Murcia’s match against Tenerife, Valdir Sequeira was the 2nd best scorer in Aich/Dob match against Arbesbach and the Portuguese setter, Nuno Pinheiro recorded 6 points for the French champions.

Valdir Sequeira’s SK Posojilnica Aich/Dob finished the regular stage of AVL at the top of the table, after cruising past SG Raifeisen Arbesbach máxima (3-0: 25-19, 25-20 e 25-20).
The Portuguese opposite stood out as the match’s 2nd top scorer with 13 points accounted (11 attacks, 1 block and 1 serve).
In the best-of-three AVL quarter-finals, Aich/Dob will play SG Cemtec Supervolley, being the first duel scheduled to 2nd March.
SK Posojilnica Aich/Dob will dispute the MEL semi-finals, on 9th March 2013, held by MEVZA. Aich/Dob will face Hypo Tirol Innsbruck (Austria), last year competition winner, while the other semi-final will be played by Ach Volley Ljubljana (Slovenia) and UNICEF Bratislava (Slovakia).

Núria Lopes and Bonémia Gomes’ UCAM Vóley Murcia climbed to the 3rd place of the Spanish Superleague, by beating in three sets Santa Cruz de Tenerife (3-0: 25-12, 25-12 e 25-14).
The two Portuguese players top scored in the match: Bonémia (14 points) and Núria (8 points – 4 attacks and 4 blocks).
Next weekend Murcia hosts Nuchar Tramek Murillo (2nd), one of the championship contenders.

Jastrzebski Wegiel SA of Tiago Violas will try, today at Kielce, the qualification for the PlusLiga semi-finals. After winning last week’s two home matches, the Portuguese setter team lost yesterday by 2-3 (23-25, 25-13, 25-23, 21-25 e 12-15).
Facing its last result, Wegiel needs a win to advance in the competition. If Kielce wins again, the decision match is set to 2nd March at Wegiel home court.

BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte, coached by Flavio Gulinelli and with the Ferreira bros. in its roster, recorded an away victory against Andreoli Latina in straight sets (3-0: 30-28, 28-26 e 25-22), thus becoming only two points behind Andreoli (7th) and Tonno Callipo (8th).
Alex Ferreira scored for 8 times (6 attacks, 1 serve and 1 block).
Next weekend Castellana hosts CMC Ravenna, 11th ranked team of Italian Serie A1.

In France, Nuno Pinheiro’s Tours VB continues to lead Pro A after another win, this time against Paris Volley, in three sets (3-0: 25-21, 25-17 e 25-22).
The Portuguese setter continues to show its scoring ability, by posting 6 points (4 attacks, 2 blocks).
On 1st March, Tours visits Narbonne (6th), and at the end of the month (30th March) the French champions will play Toulouse VB in the Cup of France Final. In the cup’s semi-finals, Tours eliminated Montpellier (3-0: 25-20, 25-22 e 25-19).
André Lopes’ Chaumont fell to the 5th place of Pro A due to the loss at home against Nantes Rezé (2nd) by 1-3 (25-19, 22-25, 20-25 e 17-25).
On 1st March, Chaumont visits Tourcoing (14th and last).
Still in France, Carlos Teixeira’s Stade Poitevin Volley Beach, which is ranked 6th in the Nationale 1 Playoff, beat PUC Volley-Ball (3-2: 29-27, 25-21, 22-25, 20-25 e 15-11).
Next weekend, Poitiers visits Conflans-Andresy-Jouy VB (5th).

In Germany, João José’s VFB Friedrichshafen hold on to the 3rd place of the Bundesliga 1 regular stage, despite being downed (2-3: 19-25, 25-17, 25-22, 16-25 e 12-15) by Moerser VB.
In the playoff quarter-finals, which begin on 16th March, the Portuguese player team will play Evivo Duren (6th ranked of regular stage).
On its turn, Marcel Gil’s RWE Volleys Bottrop continues to lead Bundesliga 2 North, after winning at Tecklenburger Land Volleys by 3-1 (25-8, 25-14, 24-26 e 25-15).
On the league next round (9th March) the Portuguese middle blocker will visit FC Schuttorf 09 (9th).
Tânia Duarte’s VG Wiwa Hamburg maintains its 5th place of Germany’s Regional North – Women, despite losing to Lubecker TS (1-3).
On 9th March, Wiwa visits Hummelsbutteler SV (6th).

In Switzerland, Rui Santos’ Chênois Volleyball Club kept the 4th place of the Swiss Playoffs, after winning (3-2: 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 24-26 e 15-12) at Lausanne VC I court.
Chênois host on 9th March, 1st-ranked EN Gas & Oil Lugano.

In Norway, Stod Volley Steinkjer, coached by André Sá, which leads the Elite Division, three point clear of Oslo Volley, but two games ahead, hosts on the next round, scheduled for 2nd March, NTNUI Volley (7th and last place).
