The girls are to play Spain B, Feel Voley Alcobendas and Spain A in the same days.

Renewed bet on the prospects

About 15 years ago, the Portuguese Volleyball Federation (FPV) was pioneer in the development of the Youth National Teams, by setting up the permanent training camp in the Campus Agrário of Vairão, Vila do Conde. After that, the path for development included the Esmoriz Training Center, Gaia College and Resende village, for the boys.

This year, FPV has showed once again to be at the forefront of the high level training, by providing the Junior and Youth National Team, better training conditions, housing and study.
Currently, with all national teams gathered in Vila Nova de Gaia, FPV can renew the bet made in the national volleyball prospects, consolidating the development achieved so far, aiming already to the next Olympic cycle which will culminate at Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Examples of the sports /studies conciliation success

On late October 5 of 2011, youth players José Gabriel Fonseca and José Nuno Gomes de Brito, both with 16 years old, were distinguished by the Resende City Hall with the Rebelo Moniz Award, a prize awarded to high school students who stand out for achieving the best results.
In 2010, Raquel Maia, Girl’s Youth National Team player, was awarded the Excellence Award, which distinguishes the best students of 2010 of Carvalhos High School, in Vila Nova de Gaia, within the “Diploma Day” established by the Ministry of Education.

Raquel Maia, who was then 15 years old and standing 1,73 meters tall, was Vitória Sport Clube team captain, was also awarded at the Sports Gala, promoted by the Guimarães City Hall, with the “Female Young Revelation Award” which comprises a sports scholarship.

Being integrated in the permanent training camp, subject to a high schedule and to be apart from her family most of the year, didn’t stop Raquel of being an excellent student, proving herself as a good example of conciliation between high performance sporting and studies.

In 2009, Pedro Monteiro, Boy’s Youth National Team player, was awarded the Merit Award, which distinguishes the best students within the “Diploma Day” established by the Ministry of Education.

Pedro Monteiro, was then 18 years old, standing 1,93 meters tall, represented Clube Desportivo e Recreativo Juventude de Anreade, like his National teammates, winning the Men’s III Division championship in 2008/09.
