NEW FIVB PHILOSOPHY

Motivated by the winds of change, the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball, under the presidency of Ary Graça, adapts to the modern times, presenting innovations in the sport, from indoor volleyball, to beach volleyball, and of course development.

“Our image is essential. We have to invest internally - we must use corporate governance methods in order to work honestly with transparency. We also have to invest externally - development of an image for the public, the spectators, the sponsors, the governments, the families and communities, which consume sport. We must continually build up our image in the best way possible. Carefully and continuously work on our image, as a flower, which, as a thing of beauty, needs the best treatment”, said Ary Graça.

This work is already underway. At Rio de Janeiro the FIVB Executive Committee defined the 2013 event schedule for indoor volleyball and implemented a new philosophy to beach volleyball, following the guidance of the World Beach Volleyball Council, led by Vicente Araújo, FPV President.
With the goal of capitalizing the past few years dynamism and to create opportunities for the players in mind, the Council propose to reduce the level of criteria for 2013 FIVB Opens, hence giving opportunity to such countries as Peru, Qatar and Uganda, as well as the return of the United States of America, absent from FIVB events since 2004, to be part in the World Tour calendar, which will cover March to December and all five volleyball confederations.
The Continental Cup success, which involved 149 countries in the last two years, has been encouraging and motivating many countries to be part in the FIVB events.

The FIVB also announced its volleyball calendar for 2013, highlighting the new World League and World Grand Prix format, and the introduction of a new competition: The Under-23 World Championship.

2013 World League’s edition will present a new format: The Intercontinental round will be played by 18 National Teams divided in 3 pools with 6 teams each.

Pool A: Brazil, Poland, USA, Bulgaria, Argentina and France;
Pool B: Russia, Italy, Cuba, Serbia, Germany and Iran;
Pool C: Canada, South Korea, Finland, The Netherlands, Japan and Egypt.

Pools A and B were determined by using the “coil system” based on the World Ranking (August 13 update), while Pool C will be formed by the 4 better ranked teams, (after the 12 teams on Pools A and B) and by two FIVB chosen nations (Japan and Egypt).

The Final Round will be played by 8 teams: Host country, the 3 better ranked teams from Pools A and B and the 1st ranked team of Pool C. [Schedule]
