Gira-Volei Community community project has developed quickly in Póvoa de Varzim, when the mentors of the Arrisca Project, the Maria da Paz Institute, embrace FPV’s development program in their own initiative, creating the “Community Gira-Volei” in the attempt to promote and social reintegration through sports and team spirit. Recently the benefits were reaped as some young kids from “Community Gira-Volei” conquered their place in a volleyball team, namely CD Póvoa. According to the Maria da Paz Institute, the “Arrisca Project” arises as the possibility to organize and potentiate the social intervention with the kids and respective families which are in a risky situation in Póvoa de Varzim, a place where no other project from the “Choises Program” existed until now. The “Choises Program” is a nationwide social program created in 2001 under the Presidencyof the Council of Ministers with the High-Comission for the Immigration and Intercultural Dialogue IP, which aims to promote the children social inclusion and youngsters that come from socioeconomic vulnerable context, particularly the descendants of immigrants and ethnic minorities, with a view to equal opportunities and social cohesion. As it becomes evident, projects such as “Arrisca” meet the objectives of volleyball, and in this case as Gira-Volley, in order to spread the healthy sport, team spirit and social interaction, forming future athletes and citizens.
