Nuno Pinheiro and his team (Tours VC) and Joao Jose with VFB Friedrichshafen are today highlighted. The first lifted the French Supercup by beating Rennes while the second will face today, in Berlin, the defending champions, as the struggle for the Bundesliga title starts, which Friedrichshafen carried for seven years in a row, before having lost to their today’s match opponent.

Tours VC and Nuno Pinheiro entered well in this season. First the French champion won the Supercup as they defeated Rennes VC (3-1: 28-30, 25-16, 25-17 e 25-16). Then, they also beat their rivals Chaumont Volley-Ball 52 Haute Marne, with the Portuguese universal André Lopés, (3-1: 25-21, 25-18, 19-25 e 25-12), in the Liga Pro A opening day. Tomorrow, Tours will visit Avignon while Chaumont will travel to Paris, in the league second matchday.

Meanwhile, Carlos Teixeira’s Stade Poitevin VB rise to the 4th place of do Nationale 1 - Pool B as they overcame VC Michelet Halluin 3-0 (25-22, 25-19 e 25-19).

Still in France, Renata Guerreiro and Sul Lyon Volley achieved a three win streak with the recent victory over CSM Clamart: 3-0 (21-9, 21-9 e 21-16), sitting at the top of Nationale 3 - Pool B.

Today Germans will have a big opening day, as João José and VFB Friedrichshafen prepare to take on the defending champions Berlin Recycling Volleys. In Bundesliga 2 North, Marcel Gil and RWE Volleys Bottrop will defend their lead as they face 9th place KMTV Eagles Kiel on October 21.

In the Women Regional Championship North, VG Wima Hamburg with Tânia Duarte, that currently is 7th, will host 4th place Eimsbutteler TV on October 20.

Moving now to Italy, Flavio Gulinelli & the Ferreira brothers’ BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte lost again, this time to the reigning Italian champions Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata (0-3: 23-25, 20-25 e 22-25). The following matchday will feature a home match against Sir Safety Perugia.

In Switzerland’s Nationale A Chênois Volleyball Club and Rui Santos had another double setback, Volley Nafels 0-3 (13-25, 21-25 e 11-25) and VBC Lutry-Lavaux I, 2-3 (25-12, 26-24, 21-25, 23-25 e 15-17) as they descend to the 5th place.

Playing for his second year with Polish team Jastrzebski Wegiel SA, Tiago Violas recorded 1 point from an ace in his team away loss to AZS Politechnika Warszawsk 1-3 (18-25, 18-25, 25-21 e 23-25) which contributed to the loss of several spots in the competition standings.
