“1 FOOD ITEM INSTEAD OF 1 TICKET” SOLIDARITY IN VOLLEYBALL

«1 Food Item instead of 1 Ticket» – this is the motto of the solidarity campaign launched by the Portuguese Volleyball Federation during the 2nd round of the qualification for the 2013 Senior Men European Championship - Pool A.

This unprecedented initiative in international competitions with the participation of national teams appealed to the spirit of solidarity of the Volleyball family in the "Fight Against Hunger" and consisted in collecting non-perishable food items (pasta, flour, biscuits, rice, etc.), during the competition held the past weekend in the Competition Hall in Vila do Conde.

“The initiative «1 Food Item instead of 1 Ticket» was a success and proved that the volleyball family is a special one and supportive with the social causes. With this campaign we achieved to create involvement and positive energy around the National Team, and we are certain that the institution which received the donations was also pleased with the outcome, as told us by its General Secretary earlier.

Within this unprecedented initiative involving National Teams and international official competitions, the public was invited to donate one food item instead of buying a ticket.
In addition to the players, technical team and respective families’ donations, the Portuguese Volleyball Federation employees wanted to contribute also, hence this was a proud initiative carried out by the institution which they represent daily.
Other campaigns like this one are to be expected soon as we want that the Volleyball Solidarity movement continue to help those in need.
The Portuguese Volleyball Federation wishes to thank all people involved in this cause, from the organization of the event, to the fans that were in Vila do Conde, and to those who publicized the campaign through social networking. We thank you all.”
