OLYMPIC HOPES

The National Beach Volleyball Team travels tomorrow via Frankfurt, for the Swiss town of Zug, where they will play, from the 17th to the 19th of May, the semi-finals of the Men's Continental Cup that determines the winner for the 2012 Olympic Games.

The National Team is composed of Pedro Rosas, Rui Moreira, João Simões and José Pedrosa, and is coached by Francisco Fidalgo:
"It is a decisive stage and the only possibility for Olympic qualification. And we regard it with seriousness and a great responsibility, not forgetting, of course, difficulties. Taking into account our first opponents (Russia) and even the eventual seconds (Swiss), if everything goes well in the first confrontation, we can only enjoy this moment. I think it was brilliant the fact that the Portuguese have reached this semi-final of the Continental Cup. We have entered the competition as outsiders and demonstrated that surprises do happen. Obviously we are not favorites, because almost all countries that are represented in this test have a higher background and greater investment in beach volleyball than we do. There are three weeks of preparation, which is a short period of time to adapt and to prepare athletes".
