VFB Friedrichshafen of João José passed with distinction by 3-0 (29/27, 25/18 and 25/21) in the difficult test against the French VC Tours with João José scoring 10 points (8 attacks and two blocks).
"The result was unexpected, but deserved", said Stelian Moculescu coach of VFB Friedrichshafen, which will now have to win on the 8th of February in France, the second match. If the team lose, they can still pass to the next stage, triumphing in the Golden Set.

In Poitiers, the French champion was about to make history in a thrilling match that featured the refereeing of the Portuguese Helio Ormonde. Based on a good display of the trio of Portuguese "musketeers", the Poitiers fought with the Russians of Kazan Zent to the last point, but could not get the victory and they lost by 2-3: (20/25, 25/23, 25/22 , 23-25 and 12/15). Andre Lopes scored 12 points (6 attacks, 3 blocks and 3 serves) and Nuno Pinheiro 5 points (3 attacks, one block and one serve).
Olivier Lecat, coach of Poitierssaid: "We lost a great opportunity, even though we faced a team of stars. The result leaves us in some way disappointed".
